POINT JUDITH
HALFWAY TO PARADISE
By Peter Reum
Not only is Point Judith the name of a spit of land in Rhode Island offering resort style accommodations with great summer weather, Point Judith is also the name of one of Virginia’s finer quality eclectic bands.
The versatility of their musicians has enabled the band to play venues from large fairgrounds to small, intimate clubs where their reputation has grown based on the diversity of the music they play. In keeping with their versatility, one challenge has been to write diverse kinds of music to entertain their audiences. As the musicians have grown to deliver quality performances, they’ve also stepped up the quality of their songs as evidenced on their new album, Halfway to Paradise.
The band has close ties to the larger Beach Boys family. The Dennis Wilson and Greg Jakobson penned love song “Forever” is included on the album, and Dennis’s son, Scott even sings lead vocals on the album. Other featured guests include veterans from The Beach Boys backing band and other surf music players including Randall Kirsch, Rip Chords member Mitch Schecter, and Beach Boy Mike Love's son Christian.
