Exclusive to ESQ
Longtime Beach Boys associate Eric Breslow was at the taping of CBS’ Grammy Salute To The Beach Boys assisting John Stamos. Of the event, Eric said, “It was a huge production. Massive. So many artists and their representatives … it was very exciting to see the top-notch level of production. John and I got there early to visit with Mike and Jacquelyne Love. Mike was in great spirits excited to see what artists were going to do with their songs. One of the more interesting points was that The Beach Boys themselves didn’t know what to expect as the production was mostly produced by the Grammy organization.
“Musically, the house band and the artists chose their arrangements. So, we were as excited as the audience to watch the show. Al Jardine and his lovely wife Mary Ann were in great spirits that evening. Bruce, I could tell, just soaked in the fine musicianship. Mike and Brian arrived at different times but were able to share quality time during the commercial breaks. It was also nice to see David Marks out and about!
“Backstage was quite relaxed, and after the show, many of the artists stayed to meet the band in the green room. Mike, Al, and Bruce were generous with their time and humbled by the praise from some of today’s greatest artists. As for John Stamos, he was so happy that the band finally got a proper tribute from the industry. John’s love of the band and its music is a very genuine appreciation. Even after all these years with them, he is still in awe and is their biggest fan. Also in attendance were long-time manager Jerry Schilling and music management legend Irving Azoff.
“Mike didn’t know what to expect, but when he saw the level of production and appreciation he seemed to be really blown away. I know all the guys were grateful to be together for the brief 3-4 hours and enjoyed some quality time during performances. It was a very memorable night.”
